As we come to the end of our second season, consider us neophytes (beginners or novices) no longer.  With fall already finding us (Bill, again, needs reassurance that the walnut trees aren't dieing) we begin to wind down and well, consider harvesting a few of said walnut trees to help make a payment or two.   Jeff would sell blood but he faints... even if it were Bubba's!  You'll see on the new Wayward Way map the Disappearing Walnut Grove... pictures say a thousand words; we're hoping for Veneer quality!

We had a better year; monetarily, mentally, and physically (no tornado evacuations so far this season thank goodness!)  We were more focused and prepared.  With Bubba the "Mow King" at Mo's helm (our life-saving, Park-making, zero-radius, commercial-type Snapper mower) and Kara, Jeff's daughter, surly wishing she were elsewhere but doing an excellent job fielding the office and Country Store, whilst tie-dyeing and creating new PXP (Pony Express Park) logo souvenirs; Jeff and I were freed up to attend to more important matters.  We continue to forget factoring in "repair time".  Everything from plumbing to tractors, lights, fences, weed-eaters, refrigerators and toilets, Jeff's had his hand in it!  Successfully I might add... what a guy!  Animal chores, bathroom duty including the privies, and trash hauling are always a given.  Sign painting and the animals are my escape despite the futility (uselessness, pointlessness, and ineffectiveness) of it all....  Still, when it all worked right, we were able to perform the multitudinous tasks required by me, the ruthless over achiever, for you, our valued customers we aim to please.

We were "mow smart" targeting certain areas as reservations indicated.  We hayed more ground.  The cute new privies proved popular and pleasantly functional.  Our bathrooms were still the rage with their exceptional showers endlessly spraying hot water over many a pacified patron.  Starlit Stage had its inaugural and well received first season, hosting a variety of musical styles and formats.  The Play Ground was more user-friendly this year and kept countless kids preoccupied (at least for awhile).  Promenade Pier, focal point (center of activity or attention) of our North Pond, has been repaired and with it's strategically placed Tiki torches radiated a South Seas aura... well, for me anyways.  We broadened our animal base adding two perfect, miniature Zebu to the menagerie, and had fenced a second copse of woods adjacent to the original zoo.  See pictures and references to Petting Zoo 2 and to my bulls, not to mention the baby bunnies that proved invaluable as babysitters!  And we now have Wayward Way up and running so to speak, welcoming horses and their riders for both carefree day trips and undemanding over-nighters.

Outdoor aficionados (devotees, ardent followers, supporters, enthusiasts and fans) are finding out about us.  The peaceful, spacious grounds, our unique and personable (charming and agreeable) camp sites, the clean, hot showers, our Park Room with kitchen facilities enjoyed particularly by Camping Clubs and their patrons.  In short (ha-ha) we've been the best kept secret for too long!  We have created quite a wonderful refuge here, our customers have been most appreciative, and I'm proud to say that not a day goes by when I don't marvel at The Park's beauty.

So campers, get your reservations in early.  Call and ask about our "Pony Passes" geared towards the petrol-conscious patron desirous of a deal, or just drop in for a visit.

We're still here!

Sincerely and with a sense of humor,

Susie and Jeff at The Pony Express

Dear Campers;

With howling winds, plummeting temperatures, and ice-induced isolation we grow weary of confinement.  For recourse we bide our time with craft projects, cross word puzzles, and contemplation over this past year.  My obsession with words is reaching new heights compounded by the addition of a new pocket electronic dictionary and thesaurus.  The “Learn a Word” feature guided the contents of this letter introducing me to such applicable words as: “Boondoggle”, “Humdinger”, “Cheeseparing”, and “Jim Dandy”! My proof readers, Jeff and Bubba, have indicated that most of what I write is incomprehensible to the general public but that can’t stop me; I’m in too deep!  Rather, I’m toying with the idea of introducing my “Blue Letters” on the web; news from The Park accentuated with all my favorite words highlighted with links to their definitions… we’ll see.

In any case (obviously!) it’s time to shake off the cabin fever, separation psychosis with synonym symptoms, or whatever ails you and get on with it!  It’s time for action, time to start thinking about camping, time to get organized; hence this letter.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for past patronage; provide you with our new, painstakingly, and proud of it, brochure; update you on some changes; and heartily invite you to join us for our 2nd season, 2005 at the

Pony Express RV Park and Campgrounds

  Opening, March 25, 2005.

  We are more knowledgeable about the RV Park business in general and have a better understanding of what we’d like to achieve. We realize our limitations.  We want to stay open. Grandiose ideas of upgrading the sewer and electrical systems give way to the more mundane practicalities of paying bills. We’re gonna be cost conscious this year. It’s imperative we pay attention to the bottom line and try our darndest to approximate that in revenue so we can keep our scenic and secluded 100 acres available for you, our favorite cracker jack (truly nifty and remarkable) campers, Jim-dandies (something or someone with outstanding qualities) one and all!

 We’ve refocused and redefined our goals and priorities but always our mission will be to provide a beautiful safe haven for your camping pleasures and pastimes.  We will continue to promote a clean and relaxed atmosphere with courteous attention to your needs and offer a kind and helping hand when asked.  Mowing, trimming, and maintaining our grounds are still a priority.  Bring on the grass! And the campers!

We love the land and feel that any improvement which makes it more accessible and user friendly is worthwhile. I love words… and woods… come visit ours as soon as you get de-iced and tired of your four walls!  We’ll be ready for you.

We have a humdinger (a person or thing of striking excellence) of a park, come enjoy it with us!

Sincerely, and with a sense of humor

Susie and Jeff
