Triplet lambs!

Sylvia proudly presented 3 babies to The Pony Express RV Park this past Wednesday, 2-1-06, all tidied up and snuggled in the hay of a big bale. No assistance provided or needed from the Homo sapien contingent, thank you!   And as of yesterday they were up and if not running, toddling.   Dang long legs!   And they sleep like they're dead.   Seriously! I'm thinking after I first saw them, we have a bottle baby, it's too weak to nurse, darn if we can keep it alive and either way we can't really brag on her tripletness … and I picked this baby up who suddenly awoke all legs!   Hell if I could figure out belly artifacts but I did notice the umbilical cord drying, etc., in perfect condition. I let it (him?) down and up the hill to mom he stumbled, probably his first hill. What a good mom she is.   Her last lambing produced triplets as well, successfully, and previous prior tripletting was reported…suffice to say we've got a “cash cow” here!   (Just kidding, well, so to speak, actually, the goats are up next, see below… J )

They eat whenever they wake up; this was day one and two of life and they were getting stronger by the hour, amazingly.   One would slowly stagger up to mom and have a little top off, indicated by it's tail going 90 miles an hour but only for a minute or two, then down it would sort of let itself fall, rousing the next one up to eat.   The temperature was beautiful, a sunny, still, 65 degrees, Feb 1 st .   All 3 babies didn't get up together unless provoked by me, getting too close (for pictures sake!).   Mom gathers them up with this low guttural sound and off they wobble.   Oh so cute!   So, knock on wood, all is well.   Presently I'm stranded at the farm (probably a welcome relief for Sylvia).   Well I could ride one of 3 horses, a golf cart or an ATV, a red convertible... (not, strange accidents happen when I drive it alone…) over to The Park.   The truck is sick now, crikey!   Why is it so difficult to keep the rolling stock up and running? Kara had to come get Jeff who's now driving the trusty Saturn back from K.C. to deal with the dead truck; fortunately we made it to The Park last night.   “Anyways”, in reference or preference, deference!   to Al Swearengen's preferred ice breaker-subject changer from “ DeadWood ” (we're besotted with the show, obsessed I hate to admit…)

Anyways and Sincerely,

Every single thing is great at

LATER:

Jeff is home past first appraising the situation at The Park.

The three lambs are up and running, jumping, bouncing and not to forget frolicking!

  Come see the babies!

Wow and congratulations to Sly and Sylvia our Barbados couple,

“Rock On!”

Our bottle babies, LaMancha /Boer crosses (goats)

Gertrude and Gretel are due to kid between the 1 st and 11 th of March. They are huge beasts demonstrating that “hybrid vigor” plus our certain over feeding. Being twins, they're likely to twin!

Our 2yo Moufalon sheep Penney and Sasha are in the batting box… thanks again to Sly… (sly devil comes to mind) and due to lamb between the 1 st and 11 th of April (we'll see how well I've been keeping track of dates I fear).

We've had glorious winter weather to be born in; cooled to the 30's over night but sunny and warm through the days.

  Praise be for the babies!

More later…

Friday evening past seeing the babies at The Park, all is well! Now it's time to look at the pictures.   Eventually, with the help of my computer expert son, we'll get some new pictures on our web site; be patient.

As ever,

Susie and Jeff at,
